“So, what did they say?” Jake asked as she reached them.
Noticing that both no longer had their duffel bags, Lynn turned to the container. “Nothing much. Just wanting to see the new neighbors.”
Typing a code into the keypad on the back doors, the doors unlatched. Lynn grabbed one of the large handles on a door and leaned back to pull it open revealing stacks of tightly packed boxes.
Sienna looked up at the stacks and wrinkled her nose, “It’s going to take forever to unload this.”
“We’ll get it done, working together.” Lynn said as she reached up to pull down one of the top boxes.
“By the way, Mom, the garage is filled with junk. You can barely get to the solar batteries.” Jake said.
Lynn sighed, “Then we’ll have to take everything into the house.”
Jake looked back towards the empty sidewalk, “They sure left in a hurry.”
“They have lives. We don’t.” Sienna said.
“Sienna, you’ll make friends quickly. You’ll see.” Lynn said as she handed her one of the boxes.
“Why couldn’t we have sold this house and stayed on Paris 4?” Sienna asked sadly, looking back at the house.

I’m in the midst of madcap writing, and hit 50K this last Sunday. Woohoo! I’m now well on my way to the triple Nano that is my goal. If I don’t catch the cold that’s been going around, I might actually reach it.
In other news, you may have noticed that this page isn’t as ‘long’ as previously. There is a really good reason for that. Namely, size. From the beginning of the relaunch I’ve been having a really big problem with the size of the graphics, in that they are just too big. Anyone with a little slower connection would immediately be put off.
So, by cutting down the literal size of the pages, I was also able to substantially cut down the KB size. As another plus, now you don’t have to scroll to read it! (At least, on most sized screens.)
Everyone have a great November! Time to go bury myself in words again…

NaNoWriMo is just around the corner, and I’ve already started planning for it (take a look at my blog for more info). Part of this means creating a comic page buffer so that the comic continues uninterrupted. So far the work on that is going great! Octobers is already finished and I have November almost half done.
Talking about writing, I think I’ve finished editing all of Chapter 1. Now to start rewriting Chapter 2. I’m looking forward to catching up to where the old comic format left off.
Yay!

First off, the new page is finished and will be up first thing Thursday morning.
Things learned this past month:
1. Text heavy graphics increases file sized much more than expected. I’ll do all I can to keep pages under 150K, but so far if they are compressed much below that the quality really deteriorates.
2. My style has definitely changed in the last few years. Just look at the characters in graphic 1 (from 2005) compared to graphic 2 (new).
3. Hackers are everywhere and apparently don’t have a real life. Instead of spending most of July 4th weekend working on art, instead I was piecing this website back together. Grrrrrr.
4. Monsoons have just started for the season and make me realize anew just how much I miss clouds.

Well, it turns out Comicshout was just dropped by its creator for various reasons just as I had tweaked the theme the way I wanted. As I didn’t want to get stuck with a dead-end comic script like what happened with Istrip (which I really liked, BTW), I had to go back to researching alternatives. This has now put me at least a week behind.
In the end it came down to only one alternative, and I wasn’t really keen on it: WordPress with the ComicPress theme. To be blunt, it’s been a pain in the neck getting it to do what I want and look like I want. The pluses: Active development and a very active and helpful community to answer questions.
So, here we are, with a new site that still need work, but at least it’s starting to take shape. Now to get busy on the most important part: the relaunched comic!
